Last year we were invited to stay at the dog friendly inn Paws on Pelham in Newport, Rhode Island. Now when I say dog friendly, what I really mean is every little detail in this adorable inn was created with dogs and their humans in mind. From the super cute wallpaper decorating the walls to the gorgeous water fountain and marble bowls in the main space. They even have the perfect wall mural for photo shoots/selfies with your pup! I told my husband to take notes because I just loved how beautiful everything in this inn is!

Timing couldn’t have been more perfect for our trip to Paws On Pelham. Not only was it mine and my husband’s 1st wedding anniversary but we were able to drop off our little foster pup Marlie to her new forever home on our way! I’m not gonna lie, I cried on the way, during and after we dropped Marlie off. We got her when she was about 10 weeks old and had her for a solid month. She is deaf and partially blind so she was a challenging pup to have around. She had this insanely loud, high pitch cry that she would scream anytime she was awake and couldn’t tell you were near her so in some ways we were ready for her to move on… But she had so many other great features that made up for the loud cry and I knew I was gonna miss spending my days with her.

Paws On Pelham was the perfect distraction for us, it was so nice to be able to go on a fun adventure immediately after saying goodbye to Marlie. We brought Jax and Jasper with us and thankfully they were such good and patient boys on the long drive there. It was a 4+1/2 hour drive from our house in Maine to POP in Newport, RH and lets just say we were all thrilled to finally arrive and get out of the car!

The wonderful Inn keeper Allison, went above and beyond for us- I really can’t say enough nice things about her, she made us all feel so welcomed and the pups couldn’t get enough of her! After we got settled in we took the boys for a walk into town. Newport has such an awesome atmosphere and we couldn’t get enough of it! We couldn’t walk more than a few yards before someone wanted to meet and pet our dogs. Some people even took their photos with them! It was so great to see how dog friendly Newport is. I mean there is even a long list of dog friendly business’s in the area on the other side of the ‘do not disturb’ sign for your door at the inn. We spent the rest of the evening feeding then walking the dogs before we ordered ourselves some dinner to eat back at the inn.

Our room was a cute spacious suite with a living room, bedroom and bathroom. The living room had a keurig coffee maker and a mini fridge AND both rooms had a tv in it! It was a pretty awesome. The next morning we got up and went downstairs to the Grab & Go Cafe where Allison made us the most delicious breakfast! She even asked us if there were any dietary restrictions she needed to know about when we checked in.

After breakfast, we decided to go on an adventure to help tire the pups out before trying to take some photos at the inn. We drove just a little ways to the perfect spot- the Newport Cliff Walk! We had the perfect fall weather to go with the perfect ocean view and it was a great way for us all to get some exercise in and have fun at the same time! We spent way more time there than expected because we literally couldn’t walk more than a few yards before someone wanted to stop us and talk or say hi to the dogs. We didn’t mind though, it was a great socializing experience for the pups (and us) and it was fun meeting other dog crazy people!

When we got back to Paws On Pelham, we went around the Inn taking photos with the pups. We started on the RUFFtop Deck and worked our way down to the back patio. The whole place was so quiet and peaceful, even on the front porch. We were all pretty tired by the time I was done snapping photos so we went back to our room and I edited photos while everyone else was napping.

We all had so much fun and didn’t want to leave the next morning. Allison made us another delicious breakfast that we took on the road with us since we had such a long trip home. We left this dog friendly inn thinking that it really has the PERFECT name! Paws On Pelham is 100% worth the drive-no matter where you are coming from! We would highly recommend to anyone who loves to travel with their best friend- their dog.

1st Foster Dog – Jet

Dogs, Foster Dogs, Maine

I met Lia from Mainely Mutts Animal Rescue at the Target parking lot in Portland, Maine to pick up our first foster dog Jet. I really had no idea what to expect, I just knew that Jet is a 4 year old Husky from Mississippi, that was scheduled for euthanasia days before he hopped on transport to Maine. I knew he was a favorite among everyone involved in his rescue who had a chance to get to know him and he got along great with other dogs.

Two hours later we were home and introducing him to our dogs. My dogs were very excited to have a new friend in the house but he didn’t really have any interest in them. I’m kinda embarrassed to admit that he was the best behaved dog in my house. Even after everything he went through, being passed from shelter to shelter and who knows what else!

Jet made himself right at home and loved settling down on the big comfy dog bed we have! Once he got comfortable in his new surroundings, it didn’t take him long to start showing his personality. He is very talkative which was new to us, our dogs bark but they don’t talk to us the same way Jet did!

When I started brushing him, he laid right over on his back waiting for belly rubs. We had a large crate for him to sleep in but one of his favorite places to lay down was under a bench in the corner of the house next to my desk where the other pups couldn’t get to him. He would even sit by the door while we were getting ready to leave so that we wouldn’t leave without him!

My 9 year old cousin Sunny came over to hang out with us one day and Jet just loved her! They played and snuggled in his giant crate together, he did really great on leash for her when we went for a walk! We took photos of Jet and Sunny together and he loved all the attention (and treats!)

However, he could not be trusted around human food! Everytime we set food down on the counter or table and looked away (even for a second), Jet would try to snatch the food before we noticed what he was doing! One day we hooked Jet to a runner off the deck when we had grilled chicken and he was not happy, he barked and howled the whole time we were eating! But don’t worry, later on we gave him a few scraps. It was clear that this pup was used to living the good life at some point in his life!

Jet was only with us for 6 days but as soon as his new forever family shut their car doors, I ran back into the house and cried. Of course I was thrilled for Jet and his new forever family to finally be together but at the same time it was sad to see him go. His new family is perfect for him and I was happy to see photos of him enjoying his new life with them!

He is such an awesome dog and I’m so grateful for everyone who was involved in saving his life! From the rescue organization in Mississippi, the wonderful people who transported him all the way to Maine and the wonderful Mainely Mutts Animal Rescue who found him the perfect forever family and of course his new family for welcoming this guy into their lives!
