Our Pack

Hi! My name is Alissa, I’m the person behind the camera and all our Joyful Goldens Instagram accounts. I usually don’t like being in front of the camera because I have androgenic alopecia which is also known as female pattern baldness. I used to have very long thick hair (just like everyone else in my family) but for some reason I lost most of it over 12 years ago.

Hair loss is not talked about enough especially when it comes to women, which is pretty sad because we all probably know someone who is dealing with it and they probably feel alone. No one ever talks about how much your hair is apart of your identity and how difficult it is to not let hair loss negatively impact your life. I always did my best to not let it stop me from living my life to its fullest, however I know that sometimes it did and sometimes it still does.

That’s why I’m so grateful for dogs. My joyful goldens (yes, that always includes Ali) not only bring joy into my life but they get me excited about it, they remind me to live more in the moment and to live life to its fullest and that’s exactly what I want to do for you! So I’m going to start sharing more about me and my thin hair journey with you.

Don’t worry fellow dog crazy friends, I’m still going to post everything dog related because photographing these dogs is what brings me the most joy and I love sharing that with you! I’m just going to add a little more of my story into the mix.

Since my thin hair is just getting thinner, I decided it was time to do something about it and I am so excited to share my very first wig with you! This is exactly what my hair used to look like after the first time I cut my long hair short because it was getting too thin. It took me about a week of wearing this around the house and out on short trips (where I wouldn’t see anyone I knew) before my brain started to get adjusted to seeing myself with a normal amount of hair again!

For the first time in years, I didn’t mind being in front of the camera because this hair makes me feel like me again! I’m not going to lie, I was a little worried the dogs might not recognize me with this new hair but honestly, they never have cared how my hair looks!

Alissa & Dave with the whole pack!

Dave and I got married on October 27, 2018 after being together since high school, 12 years ago! Since we were not able to bring the dogs to the ceremony we took photos with the dogs about a month after at Mackworth Island.
